Who Online Therapy Is For

Online therapy with me is for adults who are ready to understand what is getting in the way — and to do something meaningful about it.

Many of the people I work with online are dealing with difficulties that have roots in early experience: a difficult or painful childhood, a family environment that was unpredictable or emotionally unsafe, relationships that keep following the same pattern. Others come with anxiety, low self-esteem, or a persistent sense of being stuck that they have never quite been able to shift.

You might recognise some of these:

  • The effects of childhood trauma or adverse childhood experiences on your adult life

  • Complex PTSD or CPTSD — patterns of shame, emotional dysregulation, hypervigilance, or disconnection

  • Childhood emotional neglect — growing up feeling unseen, unheard, or emotionally alone

  • Relational patterns that repeat across different relationships

  • People-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, or chronic self-doubt

  • Anxiety and low mood that won't quiet, however hard you try

  • Difficult family dynamics — estrangement, complicated love, toxic patterns

  • Low self-esteem and a harsh inner critic

You do not need a diagnosis or a referral. If something is getting in the way of you living as fully as you would like, that is enough to reach out.

Is Online Therapy as Effective as In-Person?

For most people and most presentations, yes — and the research now consistently supports this.

Online therapy offers something that in-person work sometimes cannot: the ability to do deeply personal, sometimes difficult work from a space that already feels familiar and safe. There is no commute, no waiting room, and no need to hold yourself together on the drive home. For many people working through childhood trauma or CPTSD in particular, being in their own environment during sessions actually supports the process rather than detracting from it.

That said, it is not right for everyone. If after our consultation call you feel strongly that in-person work is what you need, I also offer face-to-face sessions in central Harrogate. We can discuss what feels right.

How Online Sessions Work

Sessions take place via Google Meet — a secure, free-to-use video platform. You do not need to create an account. I send you a link before each session and you simply click to join.

Each session is 50 minutes. Before we begin working together, we have a free 15-minute consultation call — also online — so you can get a sense of who I am and how I work before committing to anything.

What you will need:

  • A device with a camera and microphone — a smartphone, tablet, or laptop all work well

  • A reliable internet connection

  • A private space where you will not be overheard

If technology lets you down on occasion, it happens — we make a plan together for what to do if a session is disrupted.

What I Specialise In

I am a BACP registered integrative psychotherapist with a particular focus on the long-term effects of early experience. I work with adults across the UK experiencing:

  • Childhood trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) — understanding how what happened then is shaping life now

  • Complex PTSD and CPTSD — the shame, hypervigilance, emotional flooding, and relational difficulties that develop from prolonged early trauma

  • Childhood emotional neglect — the lasting effects of growing up without consistent attunement, safety, or emotional presence

  • Relational patterns — why the same dynamics keep repeating, and how to change them

  • Anxiety and low mood — particularly where these trace back to early experience or attachment difficulties

  • Low self-esteem and people-pleasing — the roots of self-doubt, the inner critic, and chronic not-enoughness

  • Difficult family dynamics — toxic patterns, estrangement, complicated grief, and the legacy of a painful childhood

I also offer the Rewind Trauma Technique for PTSD and intrusive trauma symptoms — a gentle, evidence-based approach that works within one to three sessions without requiring you to relive or describe what happened in detail.

Why Work With Me Online

My background is unusual for a therapist in private practice. I have published peer-reviewed academic research on childhood maltreatment — meaning my understanding of trauma and its long-term effects goes beyond clinical training to a research-level depth. I spent years working in the NHS as a Senior Practitioner offering CBT based therapy sessions, where I learned that structured programmes are not the right fit for everyone — that some people need depth, relationship, and a space built entirely around them.

I work integratively, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic and attachment-based approaches — tailored entirely around you. I am warm and direct. I will not simply listen and nod. Every session is aimed at moving you forward in some real way.

I am a BACP registered psychotherapist working in full accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework.

Fees and Availability

Sessions are £65 for 50 minutes individual therapy, and £95 for specialist Rewind Trauma sessions, paid by bank transfer in advance. A deposit of one session fee is required before the first session, deducted from the cost of that session.

Sessions are available on weekdays including evenings — making it possible to access therapy without disrupting your working day. Weekly and fortnightly arrangements are both available.

A student and trainee counsellor discount is available — please ask.

Ready to Get Started?

You do not need to have everything figured out before you reach out. You do not need the right words, a clear explanation of what is wrong, or certainty that this is the right step.

Reaching out is enough.

I offer a free, no-obligation 15-minute consultation call — a chance to make contact, ask anything you need to, and get a sense of whether working together feels right. No pressure. No commitment.
